Requirements

Prospective students must forward

  1. Completed SBB APPLICATION FORM (See AABB.org to download a copy)
  2. Official college/university transcripts
  3. Photocopy of baccalaureate degree
  4. Three letters of reference mailed to the education coordinator

Deadline for application is usually April 1. Students accepted for the program begin study approximately the second week of August

Candidates for admission must meet the following minimum requirements

  1. MT (ASCP) or BB (ASCP), or equivalent, certification and baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university, including:
    1. 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of biological science, (with one semester in microbiology)
    2. 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of chemistry (with one semester in organic or biochemistry)
    3. One semester (one quarter) of mathematics
    4. One year of full time acceptable clinical laboratory experience. The year of experience must be acquired post baccalaureate degree under the supervision of the following:
      • American Board of Pathology certified pathologist
      • Certified Medical Scientist
      • Certified Medical Technologist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
OR
  1. Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a major in biological or physical sciences, including:
    1. 16 semester hours (24 quarter 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of biological science (with one semester in microbiology)
    2. 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of chemistry (with one semester in organic or biochemistry)
    3. And one semester (one quarter) in mathematics
    4. One year of full time acceptable clinical laboratory experience. The year of experience must be acquired post baccalaureate degree under the supervision of the following:
      • American Board of Pathology certified pathologist
      • Certified Medical Scientist
      • Certified Medical Technologist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
