Interview Process
Admission Interview
Upon completion of all application requirements an interview will be scheduled
approximately between April and June with the Admissions Committee:

Evaluation of Applicant
Prospective students are evaluated on:
- Previous experience
- Education and training (plus certification)
- Professionalism
- References
- Career goals
Selection
By May 31 two students will be selected for the upcoming class. The Education
Coordinator will calculate:
- The results of the interviews with the admission committee (score of 50 possible
points).
- The score for the students academic standing using grade point average (less
than 2.0 GPA no points, each 0.1 GPA increase receives 1 point. GPA of 4.0 =
20).
- Experience factor (four points each year of recent Blood Bank
experience; add 1 point for each year of teaching or supervisory experience in
Blood Bank. Two points for each year of part time Blood Bank experience).

The results of the references submitted.
- Certification by ASCP or NCA
will also be evaluated.
The Medical Director and/or Program Director will review the final scores. In
the case of a tie a priority will be given to Bexar County and Texas residents.
The entire Admission Committee may render final selection decision if deemed
appropriate by the Medical and Program Director. Applicant will be notified by
mail of acceptance. Upon notification, written notice of acceptance by the
student must be received within 14 days. Send any correspondence to the
Education Coordinator.

Admissions Requirements
Students must pass the physical exam given to be accepted into the program. A
Health Screen Protocol will be given to all interviewees that includes a drug
screen, TB skin test, and test for color blindness. A background check will be
performed.
SBB Certification
This program is accredited by of the American Medical Association in association
with the American Association of Blood Banks. Students are eligible to sit for
the Specialist in Blood Bank Technology examination given by the American
Society for Clinical Pathology after successful completion of the 12-month
program.
